Hastings College hosted its annual Homecoming Dinner and Dance on Friday, October 25, where royalty winners, Marcus Dustin and Wyatt Ryan were crowned. HC’s Student Association held multiple events throughout the week in celebration of Homecoming including sporting events and other activities for students to attend on campus. Students were also encouraged to participate in the spirit days.

Starting on Monday, October 21, students could participate in Wheel of Fortune hosted at the HSU concourse where students spun to receive raffle tickets in order to win HC merch and more. Later that evening HC held a free movie night where students could watch “Smile 2” or “Joker: Folie á Deux” at Golden Ticket Cinema. To kick off the week students showed out in all-black attire to classes.

On Tuesday students, faculty and staff swapped outfits for the day. A Social Media Jackpot was hosted in HSU where students received a limited edition Homecoming t-shirt. Tuesday night the first Grocery Bag Bingo of the year was held in Kiewit gymnasium. Students played Bingo to obtain free food and raffle prizes.

Lindsey Warzinak, from Newton, Kan., said “Homecoming week was really fun. My favorite part was the events in HSU like the homecoming t-shirts and energy drinks.”

On Wednesday a popcorn party was hosted at HSU where students could indulge in various popcorn options and an array of toppings. Tymia Eva, from the Bahamas, said “Homecoming was so creative this year from the student-planned events to the handmade decorations at the dance. My favorite event was the popcorn party. There were so many sweet treats offered. I love seeing the community these events bring to campus and I can’t wait for more in the future.”

Following the popcorn party, Alpha Chi, hosted a brain-buster trivia night. Prizes, food and drinks were offered at the event for students who came to show off their knowledge. Students were told to wear all-white apparel to show off their spirit.

Thursday, students showed up to class in their Bronco Best while wearing their favorite HC gear. At HSU students were able to get a boost of energy by grabbing a variety of their favorite energy drink brands. LeNoir Dimbaya Coffee, started by an HC alumni, was also offered at the event.

To wrap up the day a bonfire and yard game night was hosted on Altman Lawn where students went to play a variety of games and eat tasty smores.

The annual Homecoming Dinner and Dance took place on Friday night. The dance featured dinner, the homecoming royalty announcement, a DJ and more. Students dressed to fit the theme of Casino Night while the entire gymnasium was also decorated to fit the theme.

To round out the week, HC’s football, volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer teams all had games on Saturday at Lloyd Wilson Field and Lynn Farrell Arena. In celebration of the Homecoming games, HC hosted a tailgate where drinks, food and games were provided.

Unfortunately, football and volleyball lost their games, but women’s soccer tied 0-0. Men’s soccer won 2-0.
