Hastings College is set to host its annual Homecoming Dinner and Dance on October 25 in the Kiewit Gymnasium. Homecoming has long been a tradition for Hastings College and the theme for the event this year is “Fabulous Casino.”

Students are encouraged to wear semi-formal attire while dressing to the theme of the dance. Dinner, a DJ, homecoming royalty and so much more will be featured at this event hosted by Hasting’s College Student Association. Homecoming events will continue from October 25-27 in celebration including the Bronco Tailgate, football game and All Alumni After-Hours. The doors will open for students at 6:30 giving them time to dance before dinner, which will be served at 7:30.

The event is organized by HC’s Student Association, which consists of three different committees. The Traditions Committee is made up of about 10 students who are in charge of putting on this event and in addition to the dance they will also be in charge of providing dinner for students.

According to Mikayla Wright, the student association’s advisor “they work independently as a committee on the menu, layout, decor, and vendors before bringing it to the full organization for opinions. Each year we take the feedback from students from the year prior and make positive changes to make it the best event that we can. As their advisor, I am there to support them and guide them through the planning process but ultimately their events are for students put on by students.” Attendees will be served with pasta for dinner at the event and the dining hall will be closed for the evening

Students interested in going are to fill out an RSVP form which will close on October 24 or until the 400 available seats are filled. After filling out the form, students can pick up their physical ticket at HSU from October 17-24[. This physical ticket will be required upon entry to the event.

Following dinner Homecoming royalty will be announced, highlighting students and their efforts so far this year. Nominations for Homecoming Court will take place from October 1-9 followed by the final voting that is set for October 17-24. Crowning homecoming royalty has been a tradition followed by HC for years, allowing students to recognize their peers.

Amanda Skinner, a sophomore from Boulder, Colo., said, “Student association is in charge of budgeting and event planning, everyone works together to decide what to do during meetings.” Skinner is a member of the committee. Students are able to recommend songs for the DJ through the RSVP form.

Wright also said “This year we have added more questions on the RSVP form to get more detailed information from students on what they want to hear. In recent years, Homecoming was not an official dance and never had a DJ. Last year we wanted to add more to the event besides a dinner and expanded it with the addition of one.”

Join HC’s Student Engagement as they celebrate the annual tradition of Homecoming along with other events throughout the week. The event will feature dinner, dancing, a DJ, and the crowning of Homecoming royalty.
