Hastings College hosted their annual Homecoming Dinner and Dance last Friday, October 25 along with other events throughout the week in celebration. Kiewit Gymnasium was transformed to fit the “Fabulous Casino” theme with large dice, playing cards, balloons and tables decorated to fit the casino style.

At 6:30 pm students started to fill the gym dressed in their very best and the place was filled with a big turnout for the dinner and dance. The highlight of the dance was the announcement of homecoming royalty. Marcus Dustin and Wyatt Ryan were crowned this year’s homecoming kings after they received the majority of their peers’ votes. Ryan, from Overton, Neb., said “Winning Homecoming King for HC was something I never imagined happening. I do want to say thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for me to win. This will be something I remember for a long time.”

Throughout the week multiple events were also held around campus in celebration along with football, volleyball, and soccer games to round out the week.

Dinner, homecoming royalty, a DJ, and much more were featured at the dance put on by HC’s student association. Students who attended the dance were met with an alfredo dinner along with fresh salad, bread, and a selection of desserts and drinks.

A photo booth and multiple backdrops were also set up around the gym for students to snap a picture in front of. Zac Tonniges, from Omaha, said, “The dance was amazing and the food was good, I had a great time.”

Shortly after homecoming royalty was crowned the dancing began. This year HC’ Student Association offered a section in the RSVP form where students could request music to be played by the DJ featured at the event. Cailey Hanson, a member of the Student Association from Superior, Neb., said, “This event was super fun to plan for the students. We hope you all enjoyed it.”

Students enjoyed themed decorations and multiple photo opportunities throughout the night along with food provided by the dining hall. The casino-style fun continued as attendees danced the night away to the DJ’s student-selected music after dinner was served and homecoming royalty was crowned. HC’s homecoming tradition was celebrated all night long by all who attended.
