The Good Fight

As little as four years ago, the Hastings College golf program was struggling to find its footing in a competitive collegiate landscape. The growth of HC golf over the past four years has been remarkable.

In 2020, the team was ranked 162nd in the nation. Fast forward to this season and that ranking has improved drastically. By Feb., the team was ranked 21st in the nation.

Coach Good, who has been the head golf coach since 2020, attributes this success to a combination of dedicated student athletes, improved recruitment and an evolving commitment to player development. “The work ethic and determination of the team has elevated this program,” said Coach Good. “We’ve seen incredible progress, and with the right resources, we can continue to push the limits.”

One of the most exciting developments for the program has been the addition of an indoor golf facility, equipped with a Trackman and multiple Flightscope launch monitors that provide real time data on club and swing mechanics, as well as ball flight, helping players improve further and perform better year round.

While the new space represents a significant step forward, there is still work to be done to make it a truly elite facility. Potential future enhancements include an indoor short game practice area, complementing the existing technology to equip the athletes with every skill necessary while providing them the opportunity to keep their technique sharp over the winters.

“An indoor short game area would truly be a game changer,” said Luke Valasek, a sophomore from Blair, Neb., and team member

With continued support, the HC golf program will keep making significant strides.
