The Hastings College baseball team is reaching the halfway point of its fall season, and head coach Victor Rojas said he is pleased with the progress the team has made so far.
With the team working through new things and getting to know one another, Rojas said the players have continued to put in the work and adapt to what the coaching staff is asking of them.
“I’m really excited about it,” Rojas said. “The guys have come together and busted their tails and have kind of adapted to some of the new things that we’re trying to implement.”
Rojas said one of the biggest positives he has seen is the overall talent of the team compared to this time last year. He believes the Broncos are in a better position heading into the second half of the fall.
“Talent-wise, I think we’re head and shoulders above where we were a year ago,” Rojas said.
While the team has shown improvement, Rojas knows there are still things that can change throughout the season. Baseball can be unpredictable, especially when injuries become a factor.
“Sports, especially in baseball, you just never know, especially with injuries,” Rojas said.
Because of that uncertainty, Rojas said the team is focused on taking its progress one day at a time instead of looking too far ahead.
“We just take things, kind of, not to be cliché, but like one day at a time,” Rojas said. “I get too excited, I get too down on things and just continue to put the work in.”
The fall season gives the Broncos an opportunity to continue developing before the regular season arrives. For Rojas, the progress the team has made so far is a positive sign.
“Overall, I’m happy where we’re at,” Rojas said.
As the Broncos move into the second half of their fall schedule, the team will continue working on the new things being implemented while building chemistry and gaining experience.
“At the end of this week, we’ll be at the midway point of our fall,” Rojas said. “I think we’re better off right now than we were 365 days ago.”
With more of the fall season still ahead, the Broncos will look to continue building on that progress as they prepare for the upcoming season.
