Bronco Move is a new organization on campus centered around health and wellness and advocating for healthy lifestyle choices. Each of their goals are rooted in movement as well as promoting ways for college students to take care of their physical, mental and emotional health. It is housed in the Physical Education and Human Performance Department but is open to all students.

The Brain Food Bar was this group’s first event, hosted on Dec. 12 in HSU with the help of Mikayla Wright, the Activities Director, and Student Engagement. This event, which was a part of campus’ Destress Fest, not only allowed students to refuel with a nutritious snack to help alleviate the stress of finals but it was also an easy and impactful way for Bronco Move to kick off its movement.

The events are created and put together by the student members, reflecting their ideas of ways to bring in the importance of health in ways that are easily accessible to the student body. They are looking to host at least two events per semester for its first year to help build its presence on campus, as well as boost participation in pre existing programs such as Miles for Mik and the free YMCA memberships available to HC students.

“Living a healthy lifestyle and promoting health and wellness is incredibly important to me. It fuels both my personal and professional interests. Both my husband and I have a lot of family history of preventable, chronic diseases. So, even as young people, we prioritize our health on a daily basis knowing that we will reap the benefits later on in life,” said Casey Krolikowski, who is one of the Bronco Moves’ administrators and an instructor in the PEHP Department.

This group advocates for several dimensions of health. Although the group name lends itself to the importance of physical activity, this program also emphasizes holistic approach to health and wellness. The creation of this organization offers more ways for students to be involved on campus outside of academic areas of interest and sports teams, giving students access to resources that prioritize the nourishment of their bodies and well-being.

The students directly involved in planning events and building this group are advocates of being mentally resilient, mobile and strong. Bronco Moves gives them a voice and allows them to take action about what is important to them.

“I’m really excited that we’re a new group on campus and we aim to spread community engagement, not just through physical activity, but through all healthy habits. So, having community and sharing good times with each other is obviously based on physical activity, but we’re also trying to build healthy habits and create a more united campus and community,” said Eli Nappe, a senior from Warrensburg, Mo.

This group seeks to shine a light on something most take for granted. As the group continues to grow and encourage others to prioritize their health not only on HC campus but throughout the community, look for emails or promotions about what this organization may be doing for their next event, as every aspect of your health is something to always focus on.
