HASTINGS, Neb. — Mr. Miggi, the new director of the music program at Hastings College, brings a lifetime of musical passion and an international background to his role on campus. Originally from the Philippines, he moved to the United States to pursue his master’s degree and has dedicated his life to singing. Music, he says, has always been at the center of who he is.
Over the past several years, Mr. Miggi has lived in multiple countries, including India, before returning to the United States. His journey eventually led him to Hastings College, where he immediately felt a strong sense of belonging. During his campus visit, he was struck by the warmth and kindness of the community.
“I fell in love with the people here,” he said. “Everything in Hastings feels so welcoming and put together. It truly feels like home.”
In his new role, Mr. Miggi is committed to supporting his students both musically and personally. He encourages them to be true to themselves, emphasizing that every student has a unique voice. He also enjoys exposing students to music from different cultures, introducing pieces they may not have encountered before. Sharing global musical traditions, he says, helps students grow as performers and as people.
Although he has been at Hastings College for only about three months, Mr. Miggi already feels pride in being a Hastings Bronco. He appreciates the small, close-knit campus and values the respectful and friendly nature of the student body.
Mr. Miggi hopes to see more students get involved in the music program, even if they are majoring in other fields. He believes that anyone—regardless of background or academic path—can succeed in music.
“Every student has a voice,” he said. “Everyone is welcome to join.”
He also encourages the campus community to attend upcoming choir and band performances to support Hastings College’s growing music program.
