Students Navigate Mixed Emotions Returning From Spring Break

By Sarah Lechman

As students return to campus following spring break, many are experiencing a mix of emotions as they settle back into their routines. While some are eager to resume classes and reconnect with friends, others admit they wish the break had lasted a little longer and are already counting down the days until summer.

A majority of students expressed that, although it is good to be back, the return to school can feel challenging after time away. For many, spring break provided a much-needed pause from academic responsibilities, making it difficult to jump back into assignments, homework, and daily schedules. The shift from relaxation back to responsibility is not always easy, especially as the final stretch of the school year begins.

At the same time, being back on campus brings a sense of structure that some students appreciate. Seeing friends again, participating in activities, and getting back into a routine can make the transition smoother and more enjoyable. Sophomore Kamerin Turner shared a positive outlook on returning, saying, “I love coming back because I get to see my best friend and be with them a lot of the time.” Turner’s response highlights how friendships and extracurricular activities can make coming back to school a more positive experience. “I also really enjoy going to track practice and staying active while having a good routine,” she said. Turner said she’s excited for summer, but it’s Hastings that makes her feel at home. “I do also love the summer, but I really enjoy being at Hastings and being with the people I love.”

Similarly, Sophomore Ava Reese expressed enthusiasm for returning to academics. She said, “I personally love coming back and getting into learning more about how I can become a great educator. I strive to get good grades and put forth my best effort to become successful in education all around.” Reese’s perspective reflects a strong motivation to succeed and a passion for future career goals, but she said, “I also love summer and love my job during my time off.”

Overall, while students may feel differently about returning after break, many agree that coming back marks an important step toward finishing the school year. With summer on the horizon, students continue to focus on academics while looking forward to a well-earned break.
