The Hastings College football team is off to a 2-2 start this season and is looking to build on its early success as the season continues.
Senior Brendan Peterson said the Broncos have had a solid start, with both of their losses coming against teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
“It’s gone pretty good so far,” Peterson said. “We have a 2-2 record with our two losses being to both Top 25 teams.”
Although the Broncos have faced some tough competition early in the season with a loss to Dordt 41-7, a win over Concordia 38-27, a win over Waldorf 34-17, and a loss to Northwestern 33-26, Peterson said the team is focused on using the upcoming weeks to continue improving and putting itself in position to add more wins.
The team will have a bye week next week, allowing the Broncos to recover and prepare for the second half of the season. For the players, the break comes at a point where they can take some time to reset before returning to the field.
Peterson said the team is looking forward to what comes after the bye and the opportunities it will have to improve its record.
“We’re looking to pick up a couple more wins after our bye week next week,” Peterson said.
As a senior, Peterson is also part of a group of players helping lead the Broncos through the season. With conference play and the remainder of the schedule ahead, the team will look to use its experience from the first four games as it moves forward.
The Broncos’ 2-2 record shows a team that has already faced some of its toughest competition early in the season. With a week off approaching, Hastings College will have a chance to regroup before returning to action and continuing its push for more wins.
For Peterson and the Broncos, the focus remains on taking advantage of the opportunities ahead and making the most of the rest of the season.
